Frequently Asked Questions
What is SpaceBones?
SpaceBones is a voice-controlled space pirate MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) for Amazon Alexa. You captain a pirate ship, explore star systems, fight and loot other players, and grow your fleet - entirely by talking to Alexa, no app or controller needed.
How do I start playing SpaceBones?
Enable the Space Bones Online RPG skill on your Amazon account, then say "Alexa, open Space Bones." The first time you play, you're given a new pirate ship with a unique name. See the full How to Play guide for a step-by-step quick start and every voice command.
Is SpaceBones free to play?
Yes, the core game is free. Some optional items and subscriptions (like extra rocket packs) are available through Alexa's in-skill purchasing - say "what can I buy" in the skill to hear current options and pricing.
What devices does SpaceBones work on?
Any Alexa-enabled device. Echo Show and Fire TV devices additionally display visuals (ship art, star backgrounds, status boards) while you play, since the game is otherwise entirely voice-driven.
What is NP (Nuclear Pasta)?
NP is SpaceBones' in-game currency. You earn it by exploring star systems and looting cargo ships or defeated players, then convert it to money while docked by saying "Unload."
How do ship upgrades work?
While docked, say "Upgrade" to level up your ship once you have enough money in the federation bank - level 2 costs $2,000, and each level after that costs that level times $1,000. Higher-level ships face (and can loot) higher-value cargo ships.
What is star leasing?
Players at level 5 or higher can lease certain high-traffic star systems. While you hold the lease, you earn a cut of what every other player spends on repairs and fuel there. Rent is settled and announced the next time you open the skill, and leases run for 30 days.
Can I see my ship outside of Alexa?
Yes. Say "link my account" in the skill to get a 6-digit code, then enter it at spacebones.io/login after signing in with your Amazon account. Your dashboard shows your ship's stats, recent activity, and any star leases.
What are rare metals in SpaceBones?
From ship level 2, exploring can turn up rare metals - twenty kinds in five tiers from common Iron to legendary Rhodium. The rarer the metal, the more it is worth. They are used to upgrade your shields and weapons and can be sold to other players on the metals exchange. Say "explain metals" in the skill for a short overview, or "metals menu" to see your hold.
How do I find metals?
Say "Explore" while launched. A small chance of each explore turns up a metal, but every star system only holds a limited supply that refreshes over time, so a busy system can be picked clean. Ask "what is silver used for" to hear where a particular metal is needed next.
Do I lose my metals if my ship is destroyed?
Metals and your shield and weapon levels belong to your ship, so they are lost if your ship is scrapped (for example by self-destructing). Selling metals you do not need on the exchange is the safe way to turn them into money.
How do I upgrade my shields and weapons?
Dock at a shield or weapon station and say "upgrade my shields" or "upgrade my weapons." Each level, from 0 to 500, costs one specific metal, and the bonus grows to +200% at level 500. Shield stations are Tau Ceti (orange-3), Mu Cassiopeiae (green-7) and Zavijava (blue-11); weapon stations are Epsilon Indi (red-2), 61 Virginis (blue-5) and Chara (orange-9). If you ask anywhere else, Lucy names the nearest station. The cost of every level is listed in the gear recipes window on the metals exchange page.
How does the metals exchange work?
At ship level 5 and up you can buy and sell metals with other players from anywhere, in the skill by voice ("open the exchange," "sell 2 iron," "buy 1 iron") or on the website at spacebones.io/exchange after linking your account. Prices are in money, sellers pay a 5% fee, listings last 7 days, and the Federation buys any metal instantly at 10% of the exchange price.
Do I need a separate account for the website?
No - the website uses Login with Amazon, the same Amazon account your Alexa device is signed into. Linking it to your in-game ship just requires the voice-spoken code described above.
Where can I see the leaderboard, star map, or market prices?
All three are on the website: the leaderboard, the interactive star map, and today's star market. You can also say "see leaderboard," "see map," or "see market" in the skill to jump straight to them.
How do I report a bug or give feedback?
Use the feedback form on spacebones.io, or reach out on Discord - both are linked from the site footer.
